Inspiration from gympie Queensland

Gympie is a town with a well recorded mining history. Originally settled with the intent of grazing, the area changed direction when gold was discovered in 1867. Queensland was in a state of economic depression at the time, and this discovery may well have saved the colony!

Nowadays, Gympie is still host to gold mining, but also depends on agriculture, timber, and tourism. The town was named after what the Aboriginal name for a tree with large round leaves, and similar properties to stinging nettles.

This is a place with a wonderfully rich history, and is surrounded by unmatched flora and fauna, which Phillip and Toni use as inspiration for their craft.

"Just look around! We live in a beautiful country. We wanted to make gifts that reflect something of Queensland, Australia's uniqueness," says Phillip.

Working with Titanium

Titanium is often used in strong light-weight alloys - one of its most notable characteristics is that it is as strong as steel, but less than half its weight!

It is amazingly resistant to corrosion, and is able to withstand damage from acids.

Titanium alloys are commonly used in high-tech applications like aircraft, armor plating, naval ships, spacecraft, and missiles!

Titanium is actually the ninth most abundant element in the Earth's crust, but it is rarely found unbound to other elements, which does grant it a certain degree of rarity.
